Rabbit Ears Until June 2009

6 February 2009 | No Comments »

The US House of Representatives has voted to delay the transition to Digital TV until June 12. The bill now goes to the President’s desk but since it was his idea to begin with, no doubt he’ll sign it. To me, it just doesn’t make any sense to delay this transition. I believe, as do most of the people I know and most of the articles I’ve read, that this will cause more headaches in the end. You pretty much have to live under a rock to not know by now that this was going to happen.

Let’s be honest, if you don’t know by now, there is little chance you will know by June. Those people who are still using rabbit ears would find out when the signal goes out, if I had any say in this. I’m not one for excessive hand-holding, and this is exactly what this is!

Okay, enough of my ranting but I just had to!

Free From The Shackles of DRM

Yes, it is a good feeling. My iTunes music is now all free of DRM…..finally! FREE at last! Just tonight, I upgraded the last batch of my songs to iTunes Plus (no DRM). I’m more likely to buy from the iTMS now than I was a couple of months ago. I had been using the Amazon MP3 Store exclusively. Heck, I may still continue to use them exclusively since their tracks are much better quality. Nonetheless, kudos to Apple for finally realizing that DRM must die, even though I had to pay extra to get there!

Super Bowl XLIII

1 February 2009 | No Comments »

It’s Super Bowl Sunday. The big game will be getting underway shortly in Tampa, FL and millions will be watching, some for the game, some for the commercials, some for both. I will be watching really wishing my team, the Dallas Cowboys, was playing in it. The Arizona Cardinals, this year’s Cinderella story in the NFL, will be clashing against the Pittsburgh Steelers. My money is on the Steelers to win this game but we won’t know until the game is over. I’m hoping for a good game not a blowout.

Caffeine Equals Productivity

Well, at least for me! Facing a deadline I decided to head to our local Barnes and Noble to enjoy a latte and get some work done. I hate having to work on my weekend time but this needs to get done and tomorrow being Super Bowl Sunday I don’t want to be stuck with doing it then.

I figured I needed a change of scenery and I always enjoy B&N. I spent a productive couple of hours here and the latte was excellent.

I’m actually writing this from B&N on my iPhone using the WordPress app (gotta love technology). Now, heading home.

Tweetie+iPhone=WIN

I just downloaded another Twitter iPhone app called Tweetie. I had been using Twitterrific for a while and really like it but decided to buy this app ($2.99) and try it. So far, I’m quite happy with it and although this is just my second day using it, Tweetie may end up replacing Twitterrific as my primary Twitter iPhone app.

There are some UI subtleties that Tweetie has that I like quite a bit, one being the ability to swipe your finger from left to right on a tweet. Doing this gives you a menu allowing you to reply, mark as favorite or see the user info (as seen in the picture below).

I also like that Tweetie allows me to just see the @replies which otherwise I may have missed if I haven’t checked Twitter in a while. You can post Twitpics directly from the client, something that Twitterrific also has, so there is no edge there.

For now, I’ll keep enjoying the app that’s quickly becoming my fav Twitter client on the iPhone……well, unless someone comes up with a better app ;-)
